What is the IICRC?
IICRC stands for the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification. The IICRC is a non-profit organization that publishes standards, certifies, and trains cleaning and restoration specialists. Established back in 1972 as the International Institute of Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Inc. (IICUC), the IICRC has been a global operation that has certified more than 60,000 IICRC Certified Technicians and over 6,000 IICRC Certified Firms. Fifteen industry leaders serve as the governing board that oversees and augments the policies and procedures set by the IICRC. They act as it’s impartial managing body that shapes industries and maintains the IICRC high standards.
Why is IICRC Certification Important?
Not unlike certified plumbers, mechanics, or even doctors, lawyers, or accountants that hold certifications from organizations like the American Medical Association or the American Bar Association, to set themselves apart through training, experience and comprehensive testing. Holding an IICRC Certification aids consumers by easily identifying technicians and businesses committed to providing industry leading service through skill, dedication and training.
SERVPRO of South Atlanta’s IICRC Certifications
- Water Damage Restoration (WRT): The Water Damage Restoration Technician training and certification is designed to teach restoration personnel how to perform remediation work and give them a better concept of water damage, it’s effects and techniques for drying of structures. This certification and training gives residential and commercial maintenance service providers the background to understand the procedures necessary to deal with water losses, sewer backflows, and contamination such as mold. (3 day course - 19 hours)
- Applied Structural Drying Technician (ASD): Completion of WRT training is a prerequisite for this certification. The IICRC-approved ASD training and certification is designed to teach the effective, efficient and timely drying of water-damaged structures and contents, using comprehensive classroom and hands-on training, in order to facilitate appropriate decision making within a restorative drying environment. (3 day course - 21 hours)
